An Exhibition about Prejudices and Realities

Have you ever thought about why people grow illegal drug crops? Are there alternatives to growing drugs? And how this might connect to you?

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is presenting the photo exhibition "From coca to cocaine - the forgotten link in the chain" from 9 July to 31 August 2019. On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the GIZ invites you to question myths about the cultivation of drug crops in Latin America and Asia.

Small farmers who grow opium poppies and coca are the forgotten link in the drug supply chain.  "They didn't care that we had nothing to eat anymore", said Moly Checya, a former coca farmer, about conflicts in a drug cultivation region in Peru. Alternative development tackles the root causes of the illegal cultivation of drug crops and creates prospects. Projects support farming families to switch to legal products such as coffee or cocoa and build sustainable economic alternatives.
