From May 9 to 10, 2017, German and Czech physicians, psychologists, scientists, as well as further representatives from the field of addiction assistance met upon invitation by the national drug coordinator of the Czech Republic as well as the Federal Drug Commissioner of the German government. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate scientific exchange and to share experiences, strategies, and approaches from the respective national addiction support systems, in order for the participants to learn from each other. The Czech Republic has a long-standing experience with methamphetamine consumers, while the consumption of this drug has only recently increased in Germany, especially in the border regions. The meeting was an excellent opportunity for GPDPD to explore the latest state of scientific research as well as to get to know different measures of intervention for harm reduction with regards to crystal meth consumption. The consumption of methamphetamine is increasingly also becoming a problem in partner countries of German development cooperation.
